Knowledge Transfer Projects
Maternal and Child Health Information Resource Center
Since 1996, HSR has worked to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative ways to enhance the capacity of State and local programs to use data for policy and program planning. As part of managing this resource center, which is funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration's Maternal and Child Health Bureau, we manage DataSpeak, a series of national Web conferences that provide easy access to state-of-the-art research and best practices information. We also produce Child Health USA, an annual publication featuring data on key childhood health status indicators.
Surgeon General's Report
HSR assisted the Office of the Surgeon General (OSG) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in developing a new Surgeon General's report on bone health and osteoporosis. A companion piece to the full report developed for consumers has been very well received by the public and has been honored as a Distinguished Technical Communication by the Society for Technical Communication. In addition to managing the content development aspects of the report, HSR assisted the OSG in developing media and dissemination plans for the report and with managing communications activities surrounding the subsequent release of the report. HSR also was asked by the OSG to assess effectiveness of dissemination efforts of prior reports and to propose new knowledge transfer-oriented strategies to assure more widespread uptake and use of this report.
Knowledge Transfer and Applications Support to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
HSR is assisting AHRQ in developing and implementing long-term, integrated knowledge transfer strategies to promote the use of health services research findings and evidence-based information among the Agency's key target audiences: State and local public policymakers, health care purchasers, health systems decisionmakers, and health care providers. This effort is organized around AHRQ's key research portfolios, which focus on such issues as bioterrorism and health systems preparedness, patient safety, and quality improvement. HSR's current contract with AHRQ builds upon our more than 20 years of working with the Agency to help health policymakers make more informed decisions.
