Technical Assistance and Training Projects
Cross-training in HIV/AIDS and Substance Abuse
As part of a project funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Health Resources and Services Administration, HSR conducted cross-disciplinary training workshops on HIV/AIDS and substance abuse for disease intervention specialists and addiction treatment providers. In preparation for these workshops, we developed a curriculum that included resource materials and toolkits to help participants create cross-disciplinary linkages in their communities.
Policy Academies
HSR supports the development and conduct of a series of policy academies, which provide a forum in which senior officials come together to develop State-specific action plans to increase homeless persons' access to health care and other services. The academies are jointly sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Veterans Administration.
Recovery Community Services Program
HSR provides TA to community-based organizations under the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment's Recovery Community Support Program. This program helps recovery organizations develop strategies for communicating and linking with provider delivery systems and for participating in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of substance abuse policies and services.
Maternal and Child Health
Since 1994, HSR has provided TA to maternal and child health agencies in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. We have designed comprehensive services for at-risk mothers and children and developed quality assurance provisions for inclusion in managed care contracts. We have provided training in areas ranging from strategic planning to coalition development to program and systems evaluation. This work has earned HSR national recognition as a leading source of technical assistance for maternal and child health programs.
State Health Care Reform Technical Assistance and Knowledge Synthesis and Dissemination Project
Under a contract with CSAT, HSR assists State treatment agencies in responding to the requirements of health care reform, individual State initiatives, and new Federal regulations such as those of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. We work with States to develop policies and procedures that facilitate access to services designed to meet individual needs. We also help State treatment agencies collaborate with mental health, primary care, and criminal justice systems.
