Tom Hill manages a technical assistance (TA) project for the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment's Recovery Community Support Program. He is currently involved in the design of strategies to assist grantees in developing peer-based recovery programs that foster long-term recovery, prevent relapse, and address mutual healing from the devastation of addiction. To this effort, he brings a firm commitment to a peer perspective and a range of skills that include program design, strength-based community assessment, organizational and leadership development, and community organizing. His work focuses on both TA needs and capacities, including linkages between the addiction and mental health recovery-oriented consumer, survivor, and family constituencies.
Prior to his current position at HSR, Mr. Hill was the Project Director of SpeakOUT: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Voices for Recovery in New York City. He is the former Director of SAGE/Queens, a senior center for LGBT adults in New York City that provides peer-driven social supports and advocacy in a clubhouse model setting. Mr. Hill is an experienced trainer, facilitator, and presenter in areas of cultural competency, HIV/AIDS, sexuality and sexual orientation, community organizing and advocacy, and aging. He holds a master's degree in social work in community organizing from Hunter College, City University of New York. Mr. Hill is currently a Robert Wood Johnson fellow in the Developing Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse initiative.
