Sheryl Anderson Mathis currently manages a 50-State technical assistance (TA) project to facilitate strengthening systems of quality care to assure the effective implementation of State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and Medicaid. Previously at HSR, Ms. Anderson Mathis provided TA in systems building and related areas to Community Integrated Service Systems grantees as part of the Health Resources and Services Administration-funded Community Integrated Service System Technical Assistance Project. She has also contributed to several qualitative research projects on topics such as Medicaid family planning services, SCHIP outreach, SCHIP services for children with special health care needs, and State nutrition education networks. This entailed assisting in developing data collection instruments, collecting data, and writing technical reports.

Before joining HSR, Ms. Anderson Mathis was involved in health promotion and prevention activities in North Carolina. She developed mail surveys and key-informant interviews for a 16-county maternal and infant mortality reduction study. For a university-based breast cancer screening program, she developed a counseling curriculum and training manual for community nurse advisors, and assisted in the development of an evaluation of the nurse advisor program. She has also developed curricula and conducted evaluations for the Columbia University Head Start program in New York. Ms. Anderson Mathis has master's degrees in public health and social work from Columbia University and a bachelor's in psychology/family services from the University of Delaware.
