Valerie Gwinner recently joined HSR, bringing 15 years of writing and program management experience on issues affecting the health and well-being of women, children, and families. She is well-recognized for bringing historical and big-picture perspectives to contemporary issues. She is also artful at translating complex materials into written or audiovisual formats that meet the wide-ranging needs of policymakers, planners, and the general public. At HSR, Ms. Gwinner writes, reviews, and edits reports, proposals, and other documents on a broad range of topics. She also coordinates communications and outreach for the company, supports new business development, and promotes staff development in writing and editing. Ms. Gwinner directs the communications team for HSR which ensures that all the company's products are clear, concise, attractive, well-written, user friendly, and of high quality.

Prior to joining HSR, Ms. Gwinner served as Senior Program Analyst at the Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health (OWH) and as a Project Director at Georgetown University's National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health. She has managed multiple programs and written award-winning public education pieces, speeches for high level health officials, journal articles for both the scientific and popular press, and many other materials. Ms. Gwinner has written for the Urban Institute, National Cancer Institute, and the Rockefeller Foundation. She co-authored The World's Women: 1970-1990 for the United Nations and A Century of Women's Health: 1900-2000 for OWH. She has a master's in public policy from the University of Chicago, a master's in Social History from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, France, and a bachelor's from Wellesley College. She is the author of two travel books, Paris With Kids and London With Kids (Open Road Publishing).
