Introduction and Overview

Thank you for your interest in the Medi-Cal Policy Institute invitation-only meeting to explore the issues and options associated with the future direction of Medi-Cal managed care for working-aged persons with disabilities. The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza in Sacramento.

As you may know, the California Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO) has proposed that the state consider expanding Medi-Cal managed care for people with disabilities as part of the solution to close the state's $20 billion budget gap. We anticipate this proposal will receive considerable attention during the upcoming legislative session.

We are convening this meeting to provide a forum in which California policymakers and other stakeholders can pursue a productive, evidence-based discussion of options for improving and expanding managed care for Medi-Cal's disabled beneficiaries. The findings from several studies commissioned by the Medi-Cal Policy Institute will be released at the meeting, as will the latest analysis from the LAO. Panelists will include representatives from other states and national experts. Perhaps most importantly, time is reserved for a facilitated discussion with all participants. Because space is limited and we are accepting registrations on a first-come, first-served basis, we ask that you register no later than Friday, January 31. As indicated above, attendance at the conference is by invitation only.
