Why Cross-Training Works

Cross-Training works because it builds upon current local processes. It does not bring in a pattern from experts or models that worked elsewhere. It is tailored to local need.

Cross-Training encourages brainstorming, where participants are helped to think creatively about potential tasks within the local agency context. It values bringing together participants from different systems and disciplines to facilitate the expression of innovative ideas for policy changes that would support collaboration. This brainstorming is done by people who are aware of alternatives, resources, and barriers.
