In its
role as a partner in the National Policy Center for Children with Special
Health Care Needs, HSR conducted a qualitative analysis of five sites
across the country serving CSHCN. The analysis explored the sites' approaches
for providing integrated mental and physical health care services for
CSHCN and their families. The study identifies factors that facilitate
and hinder integration and includes recommendations for addressing major
barriers to integration of physical and mental health services for CSHCN.
Volume 1 is a synthesis of study results and Volume 2 contains the five
case studies. (Prepared for MCHB, December 2001).
Improving
the Outcome of State Health and Human Service Initiatives: Integrating

Between
December of 1998 and May of 1999, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration (SAMHSA) and its centers -- the Center for Substance
Abuse Treatment (CSAT), the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP),
and the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) -- sponsored four 2-day
State team-building workshops on CHIP to provide multidisciplinary teams
from States with information about national outreach efforts and strategies
for expanding mental health and substance abuse benefits under CHIP.
The workshops were held in Texas, South Carolina, Rhode Island, and
